The Road (Take Three)

At the end of a hard day, the simple lyrics to one of my favorite Take Three songs:

"The Road" by Lauren Smith
All my tears behind me,
I'm walkin' down the road
To that land of endless glory
Where I'm gonna make my home.
I'm off of the devil's highway,
His land no more to roam.

'Cause Jesus He's in my life today
And I know He's here to stay,
'Cause I know I've never
Felt this sure before.
Now I've opened up the door,
And I know I'll never be alone anymore.

And now with dusty shoes,
And nowhere to lay my head.
I'm walkin' this empty road
From the valley of the dead.
And I praise the Lord my weary soul
I livin' now instead.

'Cause Jesus He's in my life today And I know He's here to stay,
'Cause I know I've never
Felt this sure before.
Now I've opened up the door,
And I know I'll never be alone anymore.

Take Three was an Adventist folk music trio who performed and recorded during the seventies. Their full debut album, Jesus, This Is for You, is available here:

  1. Thanks for the info. Steve Wallace was my Bible teacher in 1976. He really helped me begin to understand justification by faith. I later took an English class from Bonnie Casey, who I remember had released a solo album. Do you have any information about her whereabouts or a CD release?

  3. I've been looking everywhere for a CD of Take Three's music, so thanks! Steve was the guest speaker at my 8th grade graduation (Orangewood Academy) and asked me if I would play the bass on a song he wanted to sing. I had just started playing and because he used a capo, I couldn't follow him...I was so embarrased.

  4. In regards to Elderbear's post. I sang with Bonnie after Take 3 disbanded. I was the bass player for Bonnie Casey and Daystar. She did release a solo album and an album as the aforementioned BC&D. I don't have the solo album, but have several copies of the Daystar on vinyl. It was released back in the early 80s, probably in 1981 or so...it brings me back to recalling lots of good times! Greg Evans

  5. I grew up with all four albums, the two of the road, maybe soon and Bonnie and day star. But now that my parents are both dead the records are gone to other siblings an I cannot get the music. I remember those tender sabbath afternoons an would give anything to have them back and to meet the people who sang an played for Bonnie. My heart aches for some connection with the music again to fill this familyless void I have, so confusing at only 27. Just want somewhere to belong An not alone without family an hoping the music will help even just a tiny bit as it is who I am. Can I get two of the four albums from Steve in Montana?

    1. Hello,

My husband is VERY keen to get a hold of copies of Bonnie Casey's CD's and wondered if you could clarify the contact details of the store that you purchased your copies from. An email or phone number (with area code) would be fantastic. Thanks you.

  9. Bonnie is living in Washington D.C. She is now divorced but has a web site bonnielcasey.com. I don't think she has any of her music for sale there but you can contact her through the site.

  10. do you know where i can get the chords/tabs for this song?

  11. Ha! Hi Dave. Found your page looking for the chords for this song. I went to high school for a bit with Steve Wallace's older son (Steve) and his younger two children were at Southern when I was there. Hope I can find the chords somewhere. I wonder if he still has CDs available. The had them done when I was in high school and I've always regretted not picking one up then. Maybe I'll try sometime.

  13. We had a group for 17 years called SonRise.
We uploaded both our albums to YouTube Last year.

Take Three was an enormous influence on me. I still look to them as the standard for amazing quality.

For those of you interested, here is a link to SonRise Complete.
