Road Trip

I'm heading south again, going to visit my parents in Oregon. This time we're going to make a road trip of it. The straight through drive (as I prefer it) would take sixteen about hours, but we're going to be making stops on the way down for minor things like ministerial meetings, my brother-in-law's wedding, etc., etc.

When you live in northern Canada you learn a new concept distance. I drive the distance of some states just to get to a major city; the conference office is six hours away. So I've got to drive at least sixteen hours for it to feel like a road trip.

I'm going to meet up with Josue in Bellingham, Washington; it's the first time I'll be meeting a fellow blogger in person. So I'll try to post a few pictures when I have internet access. So until the end of April, happy trails.

  1. Many in the UK have no idea about what you just said. Four hours is a long drive here. You are never more than 73 (or is it 76) miles from the coast in England, the farthest point near Birmingham. You can drive the length of Wales in 5 hours and that's only because of the roads and traffic; in mileage it would be much shorter.

I miss the open space. After my first year here I went through two or three months of claustrophobia; there is a hedge or wall around everything and the houses, inside and out, are much smaller, unless your very wealthy.

A house in the country starts around $500,000. I miss my Ole' Kentucky Home. Thanks for making me homesick, Dave.

  2. Wow ... I can relate! Here in Texas, it's a long drive across the state, but not so much to major things. Our conference office is only about 3 hours away, but the camp where we hold many retreats is more like 7 hours away.

After reading what Jan said about the UK, I don't think I'll be moving there anytime soon!

Have a safe trip Dave, and share with us how it goes.

  3. Sorry, Jan. You could always move to Canada and get the best of both worlds.

  4. Greg:

I'm visiting my parents in Tigard. They have actually attended your church a few times when they were vacationing at the coast.
